限定詞 otherとanotherは、異なり、残りや追加を述べ、名詞の前に置かれます。 The other は、その使い方が少し違いますので、別のものとして扱われます。

"Other"の使い方
Other は限定詞some, anyと noの後に置くことが出来ます。
例
- Do you have other shoes?
- There are other jobs you could try.
- Is there any other bread?
- I have some other sugar we could use.
- We have no other ideas.
複数可算名詞とこれらの限定詞を一緒に使う場合、文脈からそれが明らかな時は、名詞を省略することが出来ます。その場合other は複数形になります。otherをそれだけで使う場合も同じことが起こりますが、あまり一般的ではありません。

- Do you have any others?
- I know some others who might like to come.
- There are no others in this box.
- I know others like vanilla, but I prefer chocolate.
- She doesn't have to wear that dress. She has others.
"Another"の使い方
Anotherは、単数可算名詞と一緒に使われます。不可算名詞に対しては、 anotherはしばしば単数の測定語と一緒に使われます。
例
- Have another cookie.
- Would you like another cup of tea?
- He has another brother.
- I don't have another car.
- I'll come by another time.
"The Other"の使い方
the otherが複数可算名詞を修飾する場合で、文脈からそれが明確な時は、その名詞は省略することができます。その場合other は複数になります。
例
- Where is the other box of cereal?
- I work on the weekend and go to school on the other days of the week.
- May I use the other honey for my recipe?
- I enjoyed the first book but I didn't read the other books in the series.
- Have you seen the others?
- Jim ate two cookies. I ate the others.
