引用符

引用符は誰かが言ったことをそのまま引用する時に使ってください。誰かが言ったことを言い換える場合、引用符は必要ありません。

例

"I'm going to the store now," she said.
Harry told me, "Don't forget your soccer jersey."
Harry told me not to forget my soccer jersey.

引用内での引用は、それぞれの引用を分けるために一重と二重引用符の両方を使います。

例

'I haven't spoken to Peter for months,' Dianne said.'The last time I spoke to him he said, "I'm going to Bahrain and won't be back for about three years", I've heard nothing since then'.

慣用や馴染みのない表現に一重や二重引用符が使われているのを見かけることがあるかもしれません。

I've always thought that he was very annoying, a bit of a 'pain in the neck.'
