Queensland occupies 1.7 million square kilometres of land in the north-eastern corner of Australia. The state is Australia’s second largest by area and the country’s third most populous after New South Wales and Victoria. The people of Queensland enjoy an outdoor lifestyle with world class beaches and waterways, national parks, rainforests and tropical reefs. The pleasant climate (average summer temperatures of 25°C, average winter temperatures of 15°C) means that Queenslanders enjoy more winter sunshine and warmth than most other Australian states. This is where it gets the nickname ‘The Sunshine State’. Queensland also has a large proportion of tropical climate.

Hugging the tip of the Australian east coast, Victoria is Australia’s second-smallest state. Many of Victoria’s unique and varied landscapes are easily accessible as day trips from Melbourne. Despite its small size, the Victorian climate varies across the state. The north is much drier and warmer than the south. Areas include Melbourne – an exciting, multicultural city with a rich culture, Mornington Peninsula and Grampians – an adventurer’s paradise with climbing, canoeing, Aboriginal art and national parks.
